LIMERICK'S oldest theatre company, the College Players, have announced the cast and title of their upcoming production
Directed by Nigel Dugdale and co-directed by Joan McGarry, Calendar Girls is set to be staged from November 6, in the Lime Tree Theatre.
“It's been really great to see the level of interest people have in taking part. We have held castings over three weeks with so many new faces attending the readings,” said Nigel.
The group saw a sell-out success in their most recent production of Pigtown by Mike Finn in the Lime Tree Theatre last November.
The turnouts for auditions gave Nigel high hopes for the future of theatre in Limerick: “I think it shows that live theatre is something people want to be a part of and bodes well for the future of the arts in the city.”
The multi-award winning Calendar Girls written by Tim Firth follows members of the women's institute in Yorkshire who attract international attention after deciding to pose for a nude calendar to raise money in aid of cancer treatment.
The College Players director was thrilled with the quality of local actors who read for the play, saying that the process of selecting the cast was a difficult one for himself and Joan McGarry.
Tickets for the November event can be purchased at www.limetreetheatre.ie or by phoning the box office at 061 953 400.
