PROFILE: Limerick’s All Time Great - John Kiely

GALBALLY native John Kiely guided Limerick to a first All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship title in 45 years on a glorious day on Sunday August 19, 2018.

In just his second season as Limerick senior hurling manager, Kiely’s side won arguably the greatest ever Liam MacCarthy Cup title with a run of eight games helping the Shannonsiders to end a famine that stretched all the way back to 1973.

As a player Kiely was a member of Tom Ryan’s Limerick senior hurling panel for the 1994 and 1996 All Ireland finals but he never played senior championship hurling.

Principal at Tipperary Town’s Abbey CBS, Kiely also managed the Limerick U-21 hurlers – winning the 2015 All Ireland title.
