Memories – 40 years – House prices up by 20% per year
PROPERTY
AVERAGE house prices in Limerick have been rising by over 20 per cent per annum over the past three years.
However, more detailed figures for 1975 reveal a slight drop towards the end of the year.
The statistics, issued by the Department of Local Government, do not give a reason for this drop – whether it is due to lack of job opportunities encouraging people to come to Limerick or because people do not have the money to move.
During 1972/73, the average gross price of a house in Limerick was £5,867.
But the following year, the price had jumped by 22 per cent to £7,181.
