Memories – 20 years – Arsonists destroy six houses

VANDALS have destroyed six houses in Southill over the past week – three by arson.

And now there is major concern for the safety of tenants of Limerick Corporation living on the housing estate.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to six bungalows, five of which were vacant. They were destroyed in the estate in the past week, three by burning and three more by vandals.

The tenant of the occupied house was fortunately out at the time, but return home to find his house in flames.

Mary Ryan, Housing Officer, expressed concern for the safety of tenants living next door to such incidents, at a meeting of the housing committee this week.

She is meeting with the Garda, this week to discuss policing of the area. Major Jim Kemmy deplored the vanalism and expressed alarm that the incidents happened during the day.
