Memories – 20 years – UL becomes athletic mecca


More and more top athletes are following the lead of Jack Charlton and the boys in green and coming to Limerick for serious training.

And the opening by the National Coaching and Training Centre at Plassey of all year round sports accomodation at Kilmurry Village will open the door further for more teams and athletes to come here for specialist preperartion. 

Since the accomodation facility came online in July, a range of different sporting bodies have availed of the facility.

These include GAA, Tennis Ireland, Football Association of Ireland coaching staff, Irish Waterpolo Association and the Irish World University Games Soccer squad. A French rugby squad also spent ten days of their pre-season at Kilmurry Sports Village.

The village was opened by Minister Bernard Allen.
