Festivalgoers have been urged to pack for all weather conditions
People planning outdoor activities for the August Bank Holiday weekend are being advised to keep a close eye on the forecast, as experts have pinpointed the return of the rain.
After a spell of warm and largely settled weather during the week, conditions are expected to become more changeable as the long weekend gets underway.
Carlow Weatherman Alan O’Reilly has said it’s uncertain how much rainfall we’ll see over the weekend due to a current low pressure system.
According to Met Éireann, Friday will be another bright day with sunny spells with scattered showers, mainly in western and northern parts at first, but will spread elsewhere in the afternoon and evening.
Highest temperatures of 15 to 21 degrees, warmest in the south and southeast, with light southwesterly winds increasing light to moderate westerly through the day.
Mostly dry with clear spells and just isolated showers on Friday night, turning somewhat cloudier in the northwest later. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in a light southwest breeze.
Saturday currently looks set to be the best day of the weekend, with sunny spells and temperatures reaching between 16C and 21C in many areas. However, cloud is expected to increase from the south overnight, with rain and drizzle developing in some southwestern counties.
Sunday is forecast to be cloudier, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle expected in many areas. Northern parts of the country may fare slightly better, with some brighter spells possible and temperatures remaining relatively mild at 17C to 21C.
Looking ahead to Bank Holiday Monday, forecasters are indicating a higher risk of widespread rain, particularly across southern counties, although there remains some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and extent of the wet weather. Temperatures are expected to range from 15C to 20C.
The forecast will be closely watched by thousands of people attending festivals, sporting events and outdoor gatherings taking place across Ireland over the holiday weekend.
Among the major events taking place are the Galway Races, which conclude on Sunday, while All Together Now returns to Curraghmore Estate in Co Waterford from Friday to Sunday.
Festivalgoers and those planning staycations are being advised to pack for all conditions, with sunshine, showers and periods of rain all likely to feature at different stages of the weekend.
