Artisan stalls, live entertainment and seasonal treats all on the Christmas menu

LIMERICK’S beloved Milk Market is set to dazzle this holiday season following the launch of its 2024 Christmas series.

The Christmas at the Limerick Milk Market programme is packed with festive cheer, artisan stalls, live entertainment, and seasonal treats, promising unforgettable experiences for families and visitors alike.

A trip to the city centre attraction is up there with the Christmas morning swim, chasing the wren or a trip to the panto when it comes to marking festive traditions locally.

And, once again, the covered market will be central to all things Christmassy in the city centre.

Management at the Mungret Street facility have unveiled a range of traditional daytime markets of festive foods mixed with some special once-off Christmas markets.

This Sunday, the first day of December, the venue plays host to its largest art fair of the year.

The following week, on Sunday, December 8, the Christmas Vinyl Record and CD Fair returns.

Seven days after this, on Sunday, December 15, festive antiques, vintage pieces and crafts will be the order of the day.

Every Friday and Sunday in December, there will be a Christmas open air cafe in addition to special events.

On Thursday, December 5, the stupendous sounds of Christmas will join the sweet smell of home cooked food in the market.

On this evening, a Christmas Big Band Event will take place in association with Dolan’s Pub.

Transition Year students from across Limerick will descend on the Milk Market on Friday, December 6 to showcasel some of their wares for an event in partnership with Limerick’s Local Enterprise Office.

Every Saturday will see the popular traditional food market - but with a Christmas twist between 8am and 3pm.

Shoppers are being encouraged to shop early to guarantee their favourite foods, including artisan Christmas food hampers, mince pies, specialty hot drinks, Christmas puddings, Christmas hams and of course the turkey!

Also on offer will be chestnuts, brandy butter, and other Christmas treats.

The festive season would not be complete without a visit from the big man himself: Father Christmas will be in the Market on Saturday, December 14.

Those who want to get a picture with Santa Claus - before he gets ready to set off on his sleigh to deliver gifts on Christmas Eve to the good boys and girls across the world - are encouraged to bring their phones and cameras!

There’s no fear if you miss Santa though: that’s because in conjunction with Lumen Street Theatre, youngsters can post a letter to reach him in the North Pole.

Between 11am and 3pm on Friday, December 20, there will be a fundraiser for Limerick Suicide Watch, whose volunteers patrol the banks of the Shannon and offer support to those who may feel in distress.

Sponsored by Lyons of Limerick, there will Christmas tunes and a games area.

Sunday, December 22 and Monday, December 23 will see a Christmas food and craft market, with live music between 8am and 3pm.

And the final famous food market will take place on Christmas Eve, Tuesday December 24, between 8am and 2pm.
