MEMBERS of Limerick soccer club Geraldines AFC are shocked and disgusted following an act of vandalism which has done damage to their pitch in Garryowen.

Late on Thursday night, early Friday morning, someone cut a gap in the fencing around the ground and used a scrambler bike to do 'donuts' and destroy large portions of the Geraldines AFC main pitch.

In what seems to be an attack directed just at the soccer club, (Richmond RFC and St Patrick's GAA also have pitches on the site) the less than two year old Geraldines pitch, which cost over 70,000 to install has been damaged to the tune of €10,000.

A spokesperson for the club admitted that the members were 'disgusted' with the act and have pleaded for anyone with information to contact the Geraldines committtee.

"We had come in for praise from all visiting teams. The pitch was in perfect condition before this act. The amount of Bag packing, lotto and other fundraising needed to build that pitch was unreal. We will have to go again now and try to repair the damage. The pitch was unplayable and dangerous this weekend and thankfully due to the goodness of Richmond RFC, we used their pitch for our game against Janesboro yesterday," they said.
