Shelbourne AFC is celebrating 90 years of football this season marking the fact that the club is the oldest soccer club in Limerick and one of the oldest in the country.

The club is based in Shelbourne Park on the Northside of Limerick city in the shadow of Thomond Park. The club train and play matches in Shelbourne Park and in the LPYMA grounds on the Ennis Road. The club caters for all ages and has teams from tots right through to their two adult teams. The club colours are Green and White and the club was originally started in the Thomondgate area.

Shelbourne’s strong schoolboy section competes in the Limerick District Schoolboy/girl League – with teams from Under 7 to Under 11 playing in the non-competitive “Small-Sided” games while teams from Under 12 to Under 16 compete in the competitive leagues. The club also has 4 teams competing in the Limerick District Junior Leagues – with Under 17 and Under 18 teams and two adult teams. Currently there are over 250 members and this number is growing year on year.

The centre piece this season’s celebrations will be a “Celebration Ball” – this will be a Black Tie affair and will take place at the Strand Hotel on Saturday February 10th 2018. There will be a Punch Reception followed by a Gala Dinner with entertainment afterwards by the band “Free Beer” and “DJ John Carey” and there will be a full Bar Extension. Tickets for the event are reasonably priced at €50 per person and are asking all players, mentors, parents, committee members and former members of the club to support what promises to be one of the events of the year.

The club will be producing a Brochure/Programme on the night and are looking to secure sponsorship. The Brochure will contain a history of the club with lots of photographs and articles – the club requests that anybody with old photographs or material should contact any committee member.
