CLINICAL Crescent College Comprehensive completed a Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior and Junior Cup opening round double over local rivals St Clement's College at UL's 4G rugby pitch on Tuesday afternoon.
Frequent hail showers, biting cold and a howling wind made for extremely difficult playing conditions throughout the afternoon.
In the Senior Cup fixture, Crescent College ran in five tries in all to power past their Limerick opponents 31-0.
The game was delayed for more than 25 minutes with just a minute played due to an unfortunate leg injury sustained by one of the Crescent players.
The Dooradoyle side led 24-0 at half-time, scoring four tries through Timothy Duggan, Ronan Reynolds, Jack Delaney and John Hurley, who also converted two.
The Dooradoyle side added a fifth try in the second period through replacement Nevil O'Sullivan.
St Clement's could still join Crescent in the quarter-finals either through gaining the bye available to one first round loser or by winning a play-off game next weekend.
Meanwhile, in the Junior Cup game, Crescent College Comprehensive defeated a resilient St Clement's College side 21-10 at the end of an exciting contest.

St Clement's took a deserved lead on 12 minutes when flanker Jamie Pearse touched down. The sides were level 5-5 at half-time as second row Dean O'Grady powered over for the first of two tries.
Crescent went on to rack up 21 unanswered points as Patrick Dolphin also touched down, while centre Darragh Casserly kicked two penalties.
St Clement's did gain the final score of the game through out-half Cian Casey.
Just as in the case of their seniors, St Clement's juniors can still advance to the quarter-finals of this season's competition.
