Caleb Purcell remembered by friends and colleagues as tributes flood in
TRIBUTES have come in from far and wide in memory of photographer Caleb Purcell.
Beautiful pictures from the city man’s back catalogue have been shared across the internet following his passing.
Late of Thomondgate, Ballysimon and Nenagh, Caleb made a decision at the age of 25 to “pack in my sensible career options and study photography”.
He has taken photographs for a variety of corporate clients, and local stars, including popular local singer and songwriter Emma Langford, who wrote on Instagram: “Lovely Caleb was playing around with film cameras and wanted to get portraits of his pals and I was lucky enough to be one of them. Rarely seen in front of the camera, most of the tributes to him are the beautiful photos he took.”
"We are one sodacake less today and Limerick will be less for it,” communictions executive Michelle Daly-Hayes added, writing: “He was such a force of nature. So funny, so wirry, proud and a great man for detail. I enjoyed working with him and messing with him.”
Bottom Dog Theatre Company wrote Caleb was “known and respected by all in the arts in Limerick and beyond, and took some of the most wonderful photography of our and many other’s productions.”
Fellow lensman Darren Ryan said as well as being an “extremely talented” photographer, “more importantly, he was a beautiful caring soul and a fantastic friend”.
"We'd often work together discussing projects or just simply having the banter amd I’m going to miss our chats immensely. Chats which inevitably end up with both of us giggling like kids about all sorts of very diverse topics," he smiled.
Artist Ken Coleman’s wedding was photographed by Caleb. "His passion was an inspiration,” Ken said.
Caleb, who died on Saturday, July 18, and whose life was celebrated last Thursday, is deeply regretted by parents Nora and Frank, sister Eve, nieces Chloe and Sarah, nephew Jack, godmother Mary, godfather David, Emma, and extended family, friends and neighbours.
His family request donations be made in his memory to Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
