Construction in Askeaton is expected to begin in the second half of 2027

PLANS to deliver a major upgrade of Askeaton’s wastewater infrastructure have taken an important step forward, with Uisce Éireann receiving planning permission for the project in the west Limerick town.

This upgrade will increase wastewater treatment capacity to support new homes and future development in the local community, while providing more sustainable wastewater treatment and helping to protect the local environment.

The project will include a new wastewater treatment plant (WwTP) and new wastewater pumping station (WwPS) at Abbey View, together with additional stormwater storage and upgrades to the wastewater network. As part of the works, existing infrastructure at Abbey View and Lismakeera will be replaced or decommissioned.

Angus Hall, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, said: “Receiving planning permission is an important milestone for this essential project and brings us another step closer to delivering the wastewater infrastructure Askeaton needs for the future.

“This upgrade will support existing and future development, while delivering more efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment and protecting the local environment. We are progressing procurement and look forward to construction next year.”

Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2027, subject to procurement and governance process.

Uisce Éireann is responsible for delivering public drinking water and wastewater services for the people of Ireland.

They say they are “committed to enabling communities to thrive by continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development, providing safe drinking water, and enhancing the environment”.
