LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) has announced the launch of the Christmas in Limerick 2026 Open Call, inviting creatives, community groups and cultural organisations to help shape this year's festive programme.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Christmas in Limerick has become one of Limerick’s most anticipated annual festivals, attracting tens of thousands of people and creating a vibrant festive destination for residents and visitors alike.”

As planning gets underway for another “magical Christmas season”, proposals are now being sought from cultural institutions, creative practitioners, community groups, schools, arts organisations, event organisers and other interested stakeholders.

LCCC's vision is “to deliver a cohesive, signature Christmas festival that celebrates Limerick's unique character, culture and heritage through a walkable Christmas experience stretching from King John's Castle to O'Connell Crescent”.

The LCCC spokesperson said: “Building on the theme Together for Christmas in Limerick, the open call seeks imaginative, high-quality proposals that reflect Limerick's creativity, culture and community spirit and that align with the wider vision for Christmas in Limerick 2026.

“The festival aims to showcase the city's Georgian streetscape, support local businesses, animate public spaces and create memorable experiences for all ages.”

To support the delivery of “new and exciting projects”, total funding of €15,000 is available through this open call.

Funding will be awarded to a number of successful applicants, with individual awards expected to range from €500 to €5,000.

Applications are encouraged across a wide range of areas, including arts and cultural programming, live performance and entertainment, community-led initiatives, heritage and storytelling projects, light installations and visual experiences, family-friendly activities, and innovative festive events and experiences.

Applicants may apply for full or partial funding and are encouraged to leverage additional funding sources or in-kind support where appropriate.
