Captain Cian Lynch accepted the Limerick Persons of the Month on behalf of the All-Ireland senior hurling team

LIMERICK’S All-Ireland winning senior hurlers have been named Limerick Persons of the Month in recognition of their huge success on the pitch.

The successful team was honoured at a presentation ceremony at the Clayton Hotel in Limerick city on Wednesday.

Speaking to Limerick Live, team captain Cian Lynch said:

“It's absolutely unreal to see the people that have won it before and just to be able to be here on behalf of the whole group is special, and it's a Limerick award. We're proud Limerick people so we're delighted.”

Cian added that he’s seen the lift that the win has given people in the city and county.

“It's been unbelievable... Whether you're walking down the street there in the city, meeting local people, meeting kids, meeting people of the older generation, and you see what it means. I suppose the weeks have kind of rolled on.

“Now we're back with the clubs and going from being in each other's company for weeks on end to kind of going out to kill each other every night we're playing the pitch now is just, it's great and it's the beauty of hurling and beauty of the club championship.”

Cian revealed that he hasn’t been looking beyond the club championship.

“I think everyone's in the same boat. It's just trying to enjoy the moments too. It flies by. I think it's over four weeks now since the final so we've all two games under our belts with the clubs. We'll focus on that and whenever that's over we'll probably regroup and try and make a plan then going forward,” concluded the senior hurling captain.

Limerick took home the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship title after beating Galway by 1-29 to 1-18 at Croke Park on Sunday, July 19. It was the sixth All-Ireland title for the Treaty since 2018.

The senior hurlers will proceed to the Limerick Person of the Year ceremony early next year, where the coveted award will be presented to one of the 12 recipients.

The Limerick Person of the Month award is jointly sponsored by the Limerick Leader, media agency Southern, and the Clayton Hotel.
