AUGUST is a quiet month for gigs in Limerick, but at any time of the year, this would be a big one.

American indie rockers Wheatus play a show in The Library this Friday night, with people of a certain vintage expectant of a rip roaring version of Teenage Dirtbag, the song that charted all over the world and made the band a household name.

The band - famous also for a superb cover of Erasure’s A Little Respect - will play in the Cornmarket Row bar and venue on Friday night, with a tickets a mere €10 if picked up in advance, which marks serious value in our book.

The New York band, who formed in 1995, are best known for the two hits, but have in fact released six studio albums, and are said to be working on the release of a seventh, the follow up to 2013’s The Valentine. Teenage Dirtbag was the lead single from Wheatus’ debut album, released in 2000, and featured on the soundtrack of the movie Loser.

The Venture Project and 2FM’s JJ Hartigan are also on the bill for the show this Friday night.
