UNLIKE most other events which I attend on a regular basis, the event I had the pleasure of attending last week was not fashion related but, instead, health related, very important and somewhat connected to the fashion world, which I work within.

Stepping outside of the boundaries of fashion and beauty is important from time to time, especially for a health related event.

The function was held in Limerick city’s Hook & Ladder café and restaurant on Sarsfield St, and was hosted by Nourish - an Irish wholefood brand.

On the day, there was specific focus on cancer patients’ diets and how to eat well during radiotherapy treatment, which has specific resonance for me as, like many, I have had friends and family members affected by cancer diagnosis and tragedies throughout my life.

The absolutely wonderful Niamh Corkery who is a Senior Dietitian in the Radiation Oncology at Mater Private Network, together with her colleagues at the Mid-Western Radiation Oncology Centre in Limerick, wrote a Nourish Cookbook.

We got to sample some of the delicious recipes that dietitian Corkery carefully thought out and put together and her creations were absolutely magnificent.

The delightful dessert we had served to us was Dan's Apple Cake, from a former patient of dietitian Corkery. We heard a wonderful story of Denis O’Grady (Dan) and his one pot recipe, and it was absolutely delicious!

I know as well as anyone that even a slight weight reduction for somebody who is ill and undergoing radiology, can have a major impact on the person's wellbeing and how well they take to the treatment.

The nutritious food was gorgeous and Niamh provides tips in her new cookbook too, and the launch was fabulous. I am so grateful to have been in attendance.

Our own Mid-West radiation centre located in Limerick is known to be the only specialist radiotherapy treatment centre in the region, and I hope that with all of the new technology coming out that cancer patients get the most dedicated and loving care that they so truly deserve.

I want to take this opportunity to let my readers know that if they or any loved one is dealing with such a difficult diagnosis that they are not alone and I wish all the best of health and happiness going forward.

Xx Celia
