LIVE TRACKER: Follow Storm Bram as it approaches Ireland amid Met Eireann warnings

Caution urged as 'multi-hazard' storm is set to batter most of the country

Met Éireann has issued multiple warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Bram early on Tuesday morning.

Status orange wind warnings have been issued for 11 counties across Ireland with the first taking effect at 7am on Tuesday.

That first warning - which applies to Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Wexford - will remain in place until 3pm on Tuesday.

The second status orange warning - impacting Clare, Limerick, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo - will be valid between 10am and 9pm.

Met Éireann says Storm Bram will bring very strong to gale force southerly winds with severe gusts and that potential impacts include flooding of low-lying coastal areas, especially during high tide, wave overtopping, difficult travel conditions, debris and power outages. Some outdoor events may also be impacted.

The National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management (NDFEM) convened a meeting of all local authorities, relevant government departments, state agencies and utility providers this Monday to plan and prepare for Storm Bram, which is a multi-hazard event with the potential for significant damage and disruption.

Members of the public are being reminded that flooding is a risk for all areas due to the current conditions, and even counties with a yellow weather warning or no weather warning will remain at risk of flooding.

The NDFEM says local authorities and Transport Infrastructure Ireland will be active and responding to the affected areas as required during Storm Bram.

"However, the need may arise to close some roads due to fallen trees, debris or flooding, and all motorists should follow all traffic instructions put in place. Driving during strong winds or heavy rain is a significant risk, and motorists should take considerable care when travelling, remaining conscious of the road conditions at all times," said a spokesperson.
