BREAKING: Elected Ger Ward pays tribute to Trina O’Dea after she loses out

Kilcornan man's late father at forefront of his mind

FIANNA Fail’s Ger Ward paid tribute to party colleague Trina O’Dea after she lost out in Adare-Rathkeale.

The Kilcornan man took the last seat in the municipal district this Sunday afternoon.

“I'd just like to say, I'm sorry that my colleague Trina didn't make it,” said Cllr Ward, shortly after his name was called out by the returning officer.

“I’m delighted and a big thank you to all the people in my local area who give me the number one,” said Cllr Ward.

His late father, Paddy, was at the forefront of his mind.

“It means a lot because my dad brought me into politics. He passed away around eight months ago, so it means a lot. It means more than words,” said Cllr Ward.

How did it feel when he heard his name called out?

“Look, all the hard work pays off. That's the main thing. We need to rally for Fianna Fáil, and especially to help out Minister Niall Collins because he does a lot of work on the ground. I'm delighted and I'll help him as much as I can,” said Cllr Ward.
