Thousands lace up their trainers for Regeneron Great Limerick run in the sun

City streets thronged with supporters cheering on loved ones

THE 15th EDITION of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run lit up the streets of Limerick this Sunday with more than 14,000 participants lacing up their trainers under the hot sun.

From seasoned marathoners to casual walkers in the six-mile event, the thrill of accomplishment united everyone as they crossed the finish line on O’Connell Street.

Limerick’s streets were alive with the cheers of over thousands of spectators, who provided enthusiastic support and encouragement as they watched friends and family members stride by.

Speaking at the finish line, race director Sliabh Wells said: “I’d like to thank everyone that has made this year’s event such a resounding success. To all our sponsors and event partners for their unwavering support in making the event a success. To all of the volunteers, staff, suppliers, gardai, medical teams, entertainers, and spectators who came out today to make it all happen.

"We’d like to thank the people of Limerick for welcoming this event year after year, and for making it become one of the largest running events in the country. We’ve had record participation again this year and it is testament to the quality of this amazing event.’’

Niall O’Leary, senior vice president, site head at Regeneron Ireland said they are delighted to continue our support as the title sponsor.

"This event not only promotes health and wellness but also makes a tangible difference in our community by raising substantial funds for numerous charities. It has become a hallmark occasion in our community and sporting calendars, bringing together thousands of participants and volunteers each year. We are thrilled to contribute to its success and support the admirable causes it champions.

"As we celebrate Regeneron’s 10-year anniversary in Limerick, we are proud to be part of this impactful event that contributes significantly to the vibrancy of our city," said Mr O'Leary.
