CAROL Johnston, the mum of the late Aoife who died in University Hospital Limerick, told media at the end of the four-day inquest into her daughter's death that Aoife had a "horrible death".
"When we arrived on the 17th (December 2022), we never thought on the 19th we would be leaving without her. Aoife had, in my words, a horrible death. She suffered the whole night," said Carol.
Carol spoke to media beside husband, James, and daughters, Meagan and Kate, who cradled photos of Aoife.
"We welcome the verdict and the apologies but it’s not going to change anything. Aoife’s gone and that's what we have to live with.

"It's terrifying. I'd be terrified to go in there myself or if my own other children have to go in there. That's really a sad state of affairs.
"We brought Aoife where we told her she would be looked after, but she wasn't. We told her she was in the best place, get some rest, the doctors will be here soon and the doctors never came," said Carol.
