Limerick's Opera Square development reaches new heights as giant crane is installed

THE Limerick city skyline has changed dramatically following the installation of one of the largest luffing cranes in the country.
Located at the site of the Opera Square development, the crane’s tower is 42.4 (139 feet) tall.

The crane, which was installed by specialist crews, is thought to be among the largest luffing cranes assembled on a city centre site anywhere in Ireland.

Its jib is 55 metres long and it has a maximum lifting capacity of 18 tonnes - meaning it is one of the largest luffing cranes in the country.

The installation of the giant crane is regarded as a significant milestone in the construction of the €200m Opera Square development.

Earlier this year, the project received a boost with the creation of a joint venture partnership with the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund which will provide €80m for the construction of the One Opera Square building which forms a central element of the overall development.

Limerick Twenty Thirty has appointed John Sisk & Son for the design and construction of the One Opera Square building and the 10,000 square metre basement which is scheduled for completion in January 2025.
