A NEW TV series, commissioned by RTÉ and BBC studios, is in its 11th week of being filmed on location in town near Limerick.
Blackshore is a new crime thriller series starring Lisa Dwane as protagonist DI Fia Lucey and is being filmed in the Killaloe and Ballina areas, in the lakeside town and surrounding region.
The series, which is due to hit our screens in early next year sometime, follows detective Fia as she returns to her hometown, the fictional Blackwater, to investigate a missing persons case.
Limerick Leader reporter Faye Dorgan was invited to visit The Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Centre in Ballina, Killaloe, Co. Clare to have a sneak peek into the daily lives of some of the cast members and behind the scenes action on set.
Faye spoke to producer of the new series, Rebecca O’Flanagan, who said that the Mid-West location is ‘excitable’, as the area will be shown to national and international audiences.
A local Limerick actor, Andrew Bennett, stars as an ex-garda Donal Riley in the new series and acts as main character Fia's 'surrogate father'. Andrew mentioned that it was "great to be back" in the Mid-West region, having lived in Dublin for the last 35 years.
