GLOBAL sports retailer Decathlon will open its first Irish store outside of Dublin in Limerick this Friday..
Around 60 people will be employed at the new store which is located at the former Homebase premises at Parkway Retail Park in the city.
The first Decathlon in Ireland opened in Ballymun, Dublin, in 2020 with the French company confirming plans to open a second store in Limerick just over 12 months ago.
With over 2,000 stores in 56 countries, Decathlon is the largest sporting goods retailer in the world. There are over 70 sports supplies, clothes and accessories to shop from under the one roof.
Hook and Ladder will also operate an outlet within the new store which will open between 9.30am and 7pm, seven days a week.
Mayor of Limerick city and county, Cllr Francis Foley, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with CEO of Decathlon Ireland, Elena Pecos.
