Paul O’ Connell is still in the mix for Ireland’s upcoming tour to New Zealand; Declan Kidney has left a spot open for the Munster captain as he battles back from a knee injury sustained against Ulster in early May.
A 29 man squad has been named for the trip to New Zealand which includes three uncapped players; Simon Zebo, Mike Sherry and Declan Fitzpatrick.
Ireland will prepare for the tour with a match against the Barbarians in Gloucester, although no Leinster players have been named as they play the Ospreys in the RaboDirect Pro 12 final two days prior to the Baa Baa’s game.
The Heineken Cup champs are heavily represented in the touring party with a total of eleven on the plane.
Munster captain Paul O’ Connell is hoping to join seven of his club colleagues on the tour but says he disappointed that he has not had the chance to lift any silverware this season.
Meanwhile another injury victim, full back Felix Jones feels that despite a difficult season, the future is bright for Munster and expects many academy prospects to break through to the senior side in the near future
