A MAN is being questioned about a shooting incident on the southside of Limerick city last night.

A 26-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach when he was shot at a house at Byrne Avenue, Prospect at around 9.30pm.

It is understood the man was targeted as he was standing at the front door of the terraced house. He was treated at University Hospital, Limerick afterwards but was discharged in the early hours of this morning.

The house where the shooting happened has been forensiclly examined and house-to-house inquiries are continuing.

A 28-year-old man who was arrested during a follow-up operation is being questioned about the shooting at Roxboro Road garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Gardai believe incident is linked to a local dispute and is not connected with wider criminality.

Gardai at Roxboro Road are particularly appealing for information about two “hooded” suspects who were seeing fleeing the area in the direction of Lenihan Avenue after the shooting.
