Treaty United prepare for last home game of the season against Cobh

THE Treaty United Men’s side will do battle with Munster rivals Cobh Ramblers in the final game of the SSE Airtricity First Division season tonight (7.45pm).
It has been a disappointing season for the Shannonsiders.
Tommy Barrett and co. never reached the heights of last season’s play-off final appearance with the club having to contend with a high turnover of players as well as matters off the pitch this year.
The Super Blues will have the chance to finish the season on a high however, when they welcome play-off chasing Cobh Ramblers to the Markets Field.
Cobh currently sit in sixth position, level on 49 points with fifth place Longford Town.
The Shannonsiders will be looking to spoil the Rebel party on Friday night as they seek to finish the season with back-to-back wins.
Last weekend, Treaty United secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Athlone Town in their penultimate game of the season.
With the shackles off after being confined to a ninth-placed finish a week prior, Barrett’s side overcame a nervy Athlone side who saw their promotion hopes come to an end in Lissywollen.
In the end, a fortuitous second-half strike from Ben Feeney proved the difference, ensuring Treaty ended their away campaign on a positive note.
The Shannonsiders broke the deadlock with the first real opening of the night on the quarter-hour mark, a Mark Byrne strike put the visitors in front following Colm Whelan’s delightful assist.
Ben Feeney doubled Treaty’s advantage with quarter of an hour remaining to guarantee the visitors all three points.
The Midlanders did pull a goal back late on through Brian McManus but the Shannonsiders held firm for a tenth league win of the season.
Tonight, Treaty will be hoping to reverse their 2-0 loss to Cobh the last time the pair met at St Colman’s Park in August.
A second-half double saw the hosts over the line three months ago but Treaty will no doubt be looking to finish the season on a high, whilst also spoiling any potential of a Cobh promotion push at the Markets Field this evening.
