Treaty United announce new Academy Director

TREATY United announced the appointment of David Rooney as the club’s new Academy Director, marking a significant step forward in the continued development of its elite player pathway.
Rooney brings a wealth of experience across player development, coaching and academy leadership, having played a key role within Treaty United as the men’s senior team Assistant Manager and MU20 Head Coach since 2021.
His deep understanding of the club’s football philosophy, combined with his proven ability to nurture and progress young talent, makes him ideally suited to lead the next phase of the Academy’s growth.
The role is funded through the League of Ireland Academy Investment Programme supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and Sport Ireland. Treaty United FC would like to thank Minister Patrick O’Donovan and Minister Charlie McConalogue for their support in helping the Club in this invaluable appointment.
In his new role, Rooney will be responsible for the strategic leadership and overall advancement of the club’s boys’ and girls’ academy structures. He will oversee the implementation of a high-performance, player-centred development model, ensuring alignment with the club’s long-term sporting vision and creating clear pathways from academy to first-team football.
Rooney has also held key positions within Irish football, including Women’s Senior Manager at Limerick FC/Treaty United and WU17 International Goalkeeping Coach with the FAI. His experience in building academy systems, establishing club culture, and mentoring young players has been widely recognised.
David Rooney commented: “I am incredibly proud to take on this role at Treaty United and excited to help shape the future of our Academy. We have a strong foundation in place, and my focus will be on creating an environment where players can develop and progress through a clear pathway to senior football. I am looking forward to working with our staff, players and the wider football community”,
Ian McMahon, Managing Director, Treaty United, welcomed the appointment: “David’s appointment is a hugely positive step for the Club. He has demonstrated outstanding commitment, professionalism, and a deep understanding of player development during his time here. David’s vision for the Academy aligns perfectly with our ambition to build a sustainable, high-performing structure that supports both male and female players”.
Rooney will take up the position immediately, working closely with club leadership, academy staff, and key stakeholders to further strengthen Treaty United’s reputation as a leading development club within the League of Ireland.
