Limerick Leader soccer correspondent Pat Sheehan rounds up the weekend action where one of the biggest games was Fairview Rangers 3-0 win over Wembley Rovers in the Munster Junior Cup.

FAIRVIEW Rangers booked a place in the quarter finals of the Munster Junior Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

For a game that promised so much, it never lived up to expectations with the home side putting the issue to rest before half time.

Fairview’s reward is a home tie with Nenagh next weekend for a place in the last four.

The game started brightly when James Hayes crossed and Christy Doyle’s diving header was turned out for a corner.

The resultant kick ran along the Wembley line with two ‘View attackers failing to get the required touch.

Shortly after from Eddie Mulcahy’s free kick Joey Sheahan had a powerful header cleared off the line by Fairview defender Brian Fitzgerald.

Fairview broke the deadlock on 25 minutes.

Willie O’Brien’s free kick was headed off the crossbar by Brian Buckley and when the ball returned to play Colin Scanlon with a superb bicycle kick made it 1-0.

Wembley were rocked and conceded a second three minutes later. Darren O’Sullivan played to Scanlon who fired home from 20 yards.

Three minutes from the break Scanlon turned supplier, teeing up O’Sullivan to score.

It would have been even worse for Wembley had Morgan Lewis gone full length to keep out Willie O’Brien’s effort just before the break.

The second half was a damp squib with little to warm the supporters but Fairview will not be complaining as they did what was required.

Roche blasted in a second just after the restart before Keith McNicholas made it 3-0.

Veteran striker Dave Morris turned back the clock with a fine display notching three of his sides goals to lift his side three points clear of the relegation zone.

Corbally had the perfect start when Ian O’Donoghue headed in Ken Nealon’s cross on five minutes.

Shortly after another Nealon cross saw Morris and a defender challenge with the ball ending in the net and as any good goal scorer would do, Morris claimed the goal.

There was no doubt in the third goal as Morris headed in from O’Donoghue’s cross.

Ten minutes before the break Dale McNamara hit a wonder goal from 35 yards to give Star hope but on the hour mark Morris scored again, volleying home after good work by Fearghal O’Connell.
