After an exciting weekend of action, champions St Ailbe’s will meet Monagea on Sunday, September 27 after the pair negotiated tough ties last weekend
THERE will be a repeat of last year’s county final as just four teams remain in the county ladies football championship.
After an exciting weekend of action, champions St Ailbe’s will meet Monagea on Sunday, September 27 after the pair negotiated tough ties last weekend.
The knockout stages of the ladies football senior championship had some close encounters - with Mungret St Paul’s making a statement of intent as we enter the business end of the championship.
Last year’s intermediate champions Fr Casey’s had been the story of the campaign so far and an impressive round robin series saw them earn home advantage for their last-eight clash with the city side.
However, they were overpowered with Mungret securing a 3-10 to 1-6 win.
Elsewhere, Ailbe’s welcomed Feohanagh-Castlemahon to Caherelly and came out on top in an eight-goal thriller.
The champions progressed to the last four with this 4-14 to 4-9 victory.
There were also tight games in other last-eight ties.
Monagea, looking to retake their place at the summit of Limerick ladies football, were 1-10 to 1-6 winners over Dromcollogher-Broadford.
Ballylanders will take on Mungret-St Paul’s for a place in the final after they beat Old Mill 2-10 to 2-7.
The four beaten teams on Sunday face off in the Senior ‘B’ semi-finals. The two ‘B’ semi-final losers then face a relegation play-off to see who drops to the intermediate grade for 2027.
This year’s intermediate championship quarter-finals also took place on Sunday.
There were green flags aplenty with every match having at least five goals to keep supporters - and defenders - on their toes.
Galtee Gaels had the most eye-catching results - racking up a massive 4-24 in their win over Monaleen. They take on Adare for a place in the final after they were 4-9 to 4-4 winners over St Brigid’s.
On the other side of the draw, last year’s beaten finalists Knockainey take on Oola.
Senior championship quarter-finals: Monagea 1-10 Dromcollogher-Broadford 1-6; Ballylanders 2-10 Old Mill 2-7; Mungret-St Pauls 3-10 Fr Casey's 1-6; St Ailbes 4-14 Feohanagh-Castlemahon 4-9.
