AFTER their stunning victory over Newcastle West last time out, the defending champions now stand in the way of Kildimo-Pallaskenry and the Irish Wire Products Senior Football Championship final.

With Kyle Hayes and Cathal Downes in inspirational form, Mungret-St Pauls know they will need to be in top shape themselves to continue their title defence.

The feeling around the county is that this is a remarkably open championship this year but the city men won’t relinquish their crown easily. How they cope with the break of over a month from their last game could be a key factor on Saturday.

The first semi-final throws in at 2pm in Clarina.

In the second semi, Fr Caseys, the form team in the county this season, take on Monaleen.

Like the defending champions, the Abbeyfeale men secured a bye to the semi-final - leaving them without competitive football for five weeks.

They come up against a Monaleen side coming in with real momentum after their last-gasp win over Rathkeale in the quarter-final.

True, the city men rode their luck at times in that win, but getting over the line will give Eddie Cosgrave’s men a confidence boost coming in Saturday’s clash.

Sean Finn Park hosts the 4pm throw in.

At the other end of the scale, Ballylanders and Oola bid to retain their senior status at the weekend. Bally are no strangers to the relegation final and the great survivors will be looking to pull another Houdini act.
