While the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship get underway on Thursday night, there is an extra week for players in other grades.

Twenty-six players on John Kiely's county panel are involved in the Whitebox Senior Hurling Championship - with some mouth-watering ties set for the opening rounds.

There is a mid-week start to the competition with Patrickswell, who have dropped to the 'B' section for the first time in the current format, take on Newcastle West on Wednesday, July 29. Mick Neville Park hosts the 7pm throw in.

Elsewhere in the 'B' group, Kildimo-Pallaskenry take on Mungret St Paul's on Friday, July 31. This is also in Rathkeale but Sean Finn Park is the venue for the 7pm throw-in.

The third game of the group is on Saturday, August 1 at 4pm - newly promoted Garryspillane take on Adare at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

This forms a double header with one of the 'A' group games - where Ahane take on Monaleen in the 'Super 6' encounter.

Round 2 takes place the following weekend with a TUS Gaelic Grounds double header with Ballybrown taking on Ahane and the city derby between Monaleen and Na Piarsaigh the highlight of the second weekend.
