You couldn’t make it up: Limerick celebration takes a surreal turn

Trap-and-pony emerges during celebrations after epic All-Ireland win

TIMING, as the old saying goes, is everything in life.

And sometimes, it can be almost poetic.

In the wake of our senior hurlers’ homecoming, supporters - and for a time some of the players - headed into the White House pub in the city centre.

Such were the crowds, they spilled out onto both O’Connell Street and Glentworth Street.

Somebody had the idea of deploying a Bluetooth party speaker, which pumped out a number of Limerick classics.

Into the city’s night air flowed Dreams by The Cranberries, Limerick, You’re a Lady by Denis Allen, and the classic King of the Road by The Rattling Kind, a track which has become something of an anthem thanks to Kyle Hayes.

Of course, Sean South from Garryowen was belted out. So it was inevitable that Horse Outside by the Rubberbandits would eventually blast from the speaker.

A video widely shared across social media shows that, right on cue, a man driving a pony and trap made his way up O’Connell Street.

The perfectly timed arrival prompted a huge cheer from the revellers who, naturally, had been enthusiastically singing along moments earlier.
