Worship at the altar of Limerick hurling in Kilfinane!

SR PATRICIA Coughlan’s love of Limerick hurling is legendary.

The 80-year-old nun has continued her tradition of decorating the altar in St Andrew's church, Kilfinane, in green and white ahead of All-Ireland finals.

The “hurling shrine” includes positive messages including, “Every set back is a set up for a comeback, God wants to bring you out better than you were before”; “Hope says God can, faith says God will” and “If you labour for God you fail, if you labour with God you succeed”.

Sr Patricia, the former principal of Scoil Pól in Kilfinane, has also created a number of colourful boards including meet the team of 2026, wisdom from hurling experiences, the beauty of teamwork and quotes from Pope Francis on amateur sports like hurling.

Fittingly, the Sister of Charity of St Paul for nearly 60 years was presented with a signed four-in-a-row Limerick jersey at her 80th birthday celebrations earlier this year.

Sr Patricia was a noted camogie player in her youth. She played in goals for her native Ardpatrick and was named Miss Limerick for camogie back in 1970 when she was presented with her prize by hurling legend Pat Hartigan.

Sr Patricia is an inspiration to young and old and hopefully the Limerick hurlers and management on Sunday too!
