A FREE event, LimROCK Against Racism, will take place at Pharmacia Bar in Limerick city on Friday, September 27 to promote equality, combat disinformation and celebrate community through music.
Those attending can expect music from local heroes Emma Langford, Steve óN 'dings, Shrooms, Meadhbh Hayes, Annie Cheevers and Esme O'Riordan at the Front Bar Stage. Upstairs, punters can see Major Feen, 50 Foot Woman, Hugo Lynn Experience and Some Images of Paradise. All acts spread across the two floors will be staggered throughout the evening so that everyone can experience the variety of style and talent on offer.
Co-Event Organiser and member of Limerick Anti-Racism Network, Phil Meaney, said:
"We want everyone who calls Limerick home to feel safe here. Music is one of the best ways to bring people together so that is why we decided to hold a LimRock Against Racism gig.
"Thanks to volunteers and local artists, we are able to host this gig for free. We believe money shouldn't be a barrier when building community. We will be taking donations on the night, all proceeds of which will be going to two separate GoFundMe causes."

Details of the GoFundMe causes represented on the night will be Tamar Nijim's GoFundMe. Tamar is a Palestinian woman living in Limerick, whose family is still in Gaza. Tamar is a familiar face at the weekly Palestine demos in Limerick city. She has also spoken at the recent Shannon Airport and Dublin protests.
LimRock Against Racism would like to give back to Tamar by donating to her GoFundMe to assist in her family's safe passage to Ireland.
The second GoFundMe the organisation is donating to is for Anu Okusanya's family. Anu was a Nigerian care worker who lived in Newry who tragically passed away on August 24 following ongoing targeted abuse. Anu died when she suffered a severe asthma attack after running away from a hostile situation.
Limerick Anti-Racism Network member, Emma O'Brien, said: "We would like to extend our gratitude to Wombat Promotions for all of the knowledge and enthusiasm they have brought to the organisation of LimRock Against Racism, and to the management and staff of Pharmacia for accommodating us so generously. We can't wait to welcome everyone to this community driven event."
Both GoFundMe causes will be shared at the event via QR codes dotted throughout the venue, and online here and here
Limerick Anti-Racism Network is a broad network of individuals and groups. Its aim is to help overcome all forms of discrimination, including negative attitudes to others on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.
