ACTOR Rebecca O’Mara is in Limerick this week to perform in a Druid Production.

While Dublin born and bred, Rebecca has strong links to the Treaty County that date back to the Victorian era.

“Joseph O’Mara was a Victorian Edwardian opera singer, internationally trained in Milan and travelled the world and he would come back to Limerick in between his tours and give these free concerts from the balcony of his house. He's my great-great granduncle and I really want to go and find his house. It's somewhere in Limerick city,” she said.

While Rebecca may have followed in her ancestor's creative footsteps, it’s not the only Limerick role of note within the family tree.

“His father was James O’Mara and he was a politician and he also ran a bacon factory. He was the first one of the first TDs in the Dáil. He made St Patrick's Day a day off for all of us apparently,” she told the Limerick Leader/Limerick Live.

While the star of stage won’t be running for election, she will be performing in the Lime Tree Theatre this Tuesday and Wednesday.

"The Last Return is an absurdist comedy by Irish writer Sonya Kelly, it's directed by Sarah Joyce and it's got a fantastic company of actors, Anna Healy, Bosco Hogan, Naima Swaleh, Aiden Moriarty and me.

“It's about these people who are queuing for the last ticket return of the final night of a sold out show. I don't wanna give too much away, but with wildly funny consequences. Basically you'll never cue in the same way ever again in your life after seeing this show. I play Umbrella Woman, she doesn't have any friends and she works in accounts in a large international firm. She hasn't seen the show yet and she feels like she's getting bullied at work, so she will stop at nothing to get a ticket on this final night of the show,” said Rebecca.

Tickets for the Last Return are available via the Lime Tree website.
