Leading weather expert warns 'historic' Storm Éowyn is far from 'just another storm'

Carlow weather man Alan O'Reilly has cautioned that anyone expecting a typical storm 'is in for a rude awakening.'
Weather expert Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather has warned people to expect a "historic storm" as Storm Éowyn approaches Ireland.
The warning comes as Met Éireann has issued a Status Red wind warning for Limerick, Cork, Clare and Kerry. The warning is valid from 2am overnight on Friday until 10am on Friday morning.
The rest of the country currently remains under a Status Orange wind warning.
O'Reilly said on X that the high resolution AROME weather model has shown gusts that he has "never seen this model show before for Ireland." He added that this is "one of the best" models for forecasting Irish weather.
The popular weather man cautioned: "Anyone saying this is just another storm is in for a rude awakening. This will be an historic storm."
Met Éireann has advised that Storm Éowyn will pose a "danger to life" and lead to widespread dangerous travelling conditions.
In light of these weather warnings, another of the country's well known weather experts, Cathal Nolan, has said that "we strongly urge that Status Red warnings be extended to numerous other parts of the country as this storm will result in Status Red level winds virtually countrywide."
The meteorologist added: "Winds are likely to reach up to 180KM/H or above in parts of the southwest and west, with some extreme gusts approaching 200KM/H possible exposed coastal areas. Meanwhile across the majority of the country winds gusting to 130-150KM/H seem increasingly likely."
He urged people to stay up to date on this "generational storm."
