Another weekend washout on the way

Ireland has been going through it the last 2 months with persistent rain, storms and flooding dominating the forecasters and experts have warned of more "bad news" as temperatures are set to take a dramatic drop this week and more heavy rain is on the way.

According to Carlow Weatherman Alan O'Reilly, heavy rain might take a break for Thursday evening but it will be back over the coming weekend.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann have given their six day forecast which shows unsettled conditions with rain and showers moving in from the Atlantic.

Temperatures will take a brief dip on Friday and Saturday down to a freezing -3 but will return close to normal or slightly above from Sunday.

Thursday

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle becoming widespread this morning. The rain will become confined to the south and south-east early this afternoon with long dry periods developing elsewhere. Highest temperature of 10 to 13 degrees. Breezy too with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong at times on the coast.

Outbreaks of rain will return to many southern and eastern counties for a time tonight. Drier conditions further west and north with just a few showers. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees.

Friday

Rain and drizzle in the south-east will gradually clear on Friday morning. Drier weather with bright spells and scattered showers will extend across the country from the north-west. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate northwesterly winds.

Dry and frosty with long clear spells on Friday night leading to widespread frost and icy patches forming. Lowest temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees in a light westerly or variable breeze.

Saturday

A bright and crispy morning for most with frost patches. Cloudier further west with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading eastwards through the day becoming more isolated as it clears. Scattered showers will follow in behind. Highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, coldest in the north in mostly moderate southerly winds, strong at times on Atlantic coasts.

Cloud will increase from the southwest overnight with rain and drizzle becoming widespread. Mild with lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees in moderate southerly winds, strong on Altantic coasts.

Sunday

A wet and blustery start to meteorological spring with outbreaks of rain, turning heavy at times. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in fresh to strong south to southwest winds, with gales on coasts.

Monday

Starting off rather wet with rain clearing to the east. A clearance will develop through the morning for a time before cloudy conditions start to feed in from the west again with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
