Patchy mist and fog too, with heavy rain to follow this week

ALERT: 'Frost and ice' forecast from Met Eireann with temperatures to hit -2

Met Eireann have forecast a major drop in temperatures for Monday night, with lows of -2 expected.

Monday night, December 2, will be mostly dry  with clear spells, but with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees generally, according to the national forecast.

Frost and ice are set to develop in places, with "light southeasterly or variable breezes" and "some patchy mist and fog too".

It will be in the southwest as freshening southeasterly winds and outbreaks of rain developing towards Tuesday morning.

A cold and dry start is forecast for Tuesday morning, with some early sunny spells, however there'll be some rain in the southwest.

"Cloud will increase from the west with outbreaks of rain extending from the southwest and west through the afternoon and early evening, with some heavy bursts and the chance of some spot flooding", and a chance of "a little sleet for a short time on high ground in the north".

The outlook for the rest of this week is "unsettled with rain, showers and breezy or windy conditions", but more settled weather is indicated towards the end of this week or early next week.
