It is looking more likely that stormy weather could impact Ireland on Sunday and Monday as weather forecasters track nasty looking models.

Met Éireann are yet to issue a definitive forecast for the weekend but have hinted at some wild weather. They said: "Possibly turning wet and windy for Sunday and early Monday with mixed conditions following. Turning a bit milder too."

Meanwhile, a number of other regional forecasters have been checking models to gauge the likelihood of a storm hitting Ireland on Sunday.

Weather Alerts Ireland posted: "The weather is expected to change over the coming week with much cooler and more unsettled weather forecast.

"From next weekend there is a risk of some stormy weather as a very deep low pressure system is forecast to push close to Ireland."

However, they concluded by saying there is "so much uncertainty on this at the moment, so I will be watching closely."

Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says: "There’s a risk of some strong winds on Sunday as a deepening area of low pressure tracks close to our shores.

"There’s still a great deal of uncertainty and undoubtedly there will be changes to the forecast models in the lead up to the weekend. But certainly worth keeping an eye on this area of low pressure."

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather explained how models currently differ with one bringing the stormy weather over Ireland and another predicting it will go further south and effectively miss us.

"Details on possible low system developing in Atlantic Sunday also continue uncertain but risk of wet and windy later Sunday has increased on latest runs. However, I expect a lot of chopping and changing in forecasts before Sunday."

In the meantime, Met Éireann forecasts "mixed weather and cold for the time of year."

For Tuesday night, they say: "Cold and largely dry tonight with clear spells and just isolated showers, mainly for north facing coasts. Later in the night, cloud will build over much of Munster and south Leinster, with rain starting to move into the southwest. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7 degrees, possibly dipping lower locally in the midlands and north, in light northerly or variable breezes. Isolated patches of mist and fog will form.

"Mostly cloudy tomorrow [Wednesday], with outbreaks of rain moving into much of Munster and south Leinster through the morning and continuing into the afternoon, with some heavy falls and the likelihood of localised flooding. The rain will extend further northeastwards over eastern parts of Leinster too later in the day. Drier further to the north and for much of the west, with some sunny spells and well scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in light to moderate east to northeast winds, fresher near southern coasts.

"Showery outbreaks of rain will continue to affect southern areas at times [Wednesday night] but will also extend into some eastern and northeastern areas overnight. Plenty of dry weather elsewhere with just a few showers. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees in mostly light to moderate north to northeast winds, fresh to strong near eastern coasts."

Their forecast for Thursday continues: "A cold day with showers or longer spells of rain expected, especially in the east and northeast, some heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms and hail. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty northerly winds.

"A bright day with sunshine and scattered showers, most frequent in the north and northwest [on Friday]. Towards the evening, the showers will ease and become more isolated. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds at first, easing through the day.

"A mix of cloud, sunny spells and well scattered showers [on Saturday]. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with mostly light to moderate westerly winds, backing southerly."
