WHEN looking at the Shannon River this week, you might see something a little bit different to celebrate Christmas in Limerick.

What you see in the Shannon may seem like a reindeer to celebrate the Christmas festivities, but it’s actually the stag which is the Munster Rugby emblem.

The idea was conceptualised by Ray O’Halloran, who wanted the bronze statue to flow down the river for Limerick’s spectators to appreciate.

The businessman told the Limerick Leader that he hopes to add at least 10 of these bronze stags, which have steel bases, swimming down the Shannon in the near future.

He thanked the Marine Search and Rescue for their help in installing the stag. The above photo was taken by local photographer, Kevin Fitzpatrick.
