THE Milk Market has unveiled a new mural art installation entitled, Limerick You're A Lady.
Limerick Civic Trust, Limerick Chamber and the Limerick Milk Market were jointly awarded colourful help under the umbrella of the Dulux Let’s Colour Project community initiative, which lends supports to local community projects all over Ireland.
Limerick Chamber shared the opportunity with their members as ‘Let’s Colour Limerick’, coordinating submissions and subsequently the Milk Market was awarded help in the form of a team of volunteers to inject colour into the market area.
The mural by local artists Des and Ina Langford of Desina Grafix celebrates the life of Catherine Hayes embodying the spirit and success of Limerick women in the city.

The Milk Market’s manager, David Fitzgerald commented: “We were keen to make a historical colourful mark on the perimeter of the building, but equally we wanted to say something more about the market overall.”
David explained: “This is an opportunity to recognise the strength of the ‘Women of Limerick for their contribution to the heart of the city, those who traded and trade today at this national historical landmark.”
“Often unsung, they have always had the vision and grit to trade supporting their families, while today in this age these women are creating exciting new business start-ups.”
Dr Stephen Griffin of Limerick Civic Trust described the project as “a valuable collaboration between city stakeholders which contributes to the improvement of an important hub in the city centre. Promoting civic pride is one of the key aims of Limerick Civic Trust.”
Volunteers from Limerick Civic Trust joined a team from the Dulux Let’s Colour Project as well as social enterprise charity, Volunteer It Yourself, which mentors young people in painting and construction skills to make the transformation.
All exterior doors facing on the streetscapes received a colourful makeover in heritage colours by Dulux Heritage to reflect the creative colourful personalities that trade within the walls of the market.
