'Don't make it easy for criminals'

A“RECENT trend” of family cars being stolen by burglars in Limerick has been reported by gardaí, who have issued a warning to homeowners.

A burglar broke into a house at Shannonvale on the Old Cratloe Road on Friday, December 6, between 2.30am and 9am.

“The intruder forced open the front door in an effort to get into the house,” said garda John Finnerty of Henry St garda station.

“Once inside, he stole a set of car keys that were left on a table. He then used the car keys to steal the family car ie a white Audi A3 saloon.”

The registration of the car is 151L and it was parked on the driveway at the front of the house.

“We don’t have a description of the thief and we don’t know where the car went once it was stolen. The car has not been recovered since,” garda Finnerty said.

“We have noticed a recent trend where many criminals break into houses, and then steal both family cars that are parked outside.

“We would advise all car owners not to leave their car keys where they could be easily accessible to criminals in the event of a burglary. When retiring for the night bring the car keys upstairs with you. Don’t make it easy for criminals.”

Gardaí at Mayorstone are investigating the incident, and can be reached at 061 456980.
