Russell parted ways with the Shannonsiders in September, with two games of the SSE Airtricity Women's First Division still left to play at the time.

Russell and his management team had overseen the club's most successful season to date. Treaty finished last season in 8th position on 35 points, the club's highest ever points total in a single season.

The Dublin native also led Treaty to the FAI Cup semi-final where they came up short against Bohemians.

Russell will be taking over a Shelbourne side who finished second last season, seven points behind champions Athlone Town.

The former Treaty Head Coach took to Instagram to express his delight at landing the new role.

"I am honoured to be the new Women's Head Coach at Shelbourne Football Club. I am grateful to the board for the opportunity and I will do everything I can to get this club to the top of Irish football where it belongs."
