FOUR Limerick jockeys were in the winners enclosure this past week.
Rathkeale's Conor McNamara added to his Listowel festival success on Penny Jar when scoring on the Pat Downey-trained six-year-old in the two mile five-furlong handicap hurdle at Punchestown last Tuesday.
The Kevin Heaney-owned 15/2 chance scored by three-parts of a length when a winner at the Kerry venue and he followed up by the same winning distance when getting the better of Gavin Cromwell’s 4/1 favourite Clear The Clouds.
Chris Hayes and trainer Edward Lynam maintained their good recent strike-rates on the all-weather at Dundalk as Selective Power, owned and bred by Sabina Power, landed the opening division of the seven-furlong on Wednesday. The Dunshaughlin-based trainer recorded a 1-2 in the race with the gambled-on 9/2 chance arriving late on the scene to beat his own stable mate Linus Larrabee by a neck.
Owned by Jerry Enright and ridden by his son Mark, 11/2 chance Chutzpal won the two-mile handicap. The three-year-old led early in the straight and came home a length and three-parts to the good over the Eoin McCarthy-trained Well Funded.
Billy Lee landed the concluding 12-furlong handicap on the Andy Oliver-trained Cold Steel. A well-supported 9/2 shot, the Team Valor-owned four-year-old held off the late run of the David Broad-trained Turf Range to score by half a length.
