Munster Rugby issue squad injury update as preparations begin for PRO14 semi final

Alex Wootton will get surgery which will rule him out for the season

The Munster squad returned to training today ahead of the Guinness PRO14 semi-final against Leinster at the RDS on Saturday, May 18 (2.30pm). There was positive injury news for Tommy O’Donnell (shoulder) and Fineen Wycherley (hamstring) as they both returned to team training.

Prop Jeremy Loughman, who suffered a hamstring injury at the Captain’s Run ahead of the Guinness PRO14 quarter-final win over Benetton Rugby, will be monitored in the coming days, while hooker Rhys Marshall suffered a low-grade calf strain at training last week.

Garryowen winger Alex Wootton is undergoing a procedure on a knee injury and will miss the remainder of the season, with his return date to be sometime after the Rugby World Cup.

Irish out-half Joey Carbery is progressing with his re-integration to full team training, while  Keith Earls continues to be monitored by the medical team. Finally, the following are progressing with rehabilitation: Brian Scott (foot), James Cronin (leg).
