Opinion: 120 different outcomes in the Munster Hurling Championship - Jerome O'Connell

At the launch of the Munster SHC

IT’S all getting very real now with the Munster SHC underway this Sunday.

Five teams start out, with three teams to emerge the other side on June 16.

Last Summer was in many ways a journey into the unknown, but 2019 is certainly a new venture – Limerick as defending All-Ireland champions.

This time last year the feeling was one of optimism as Limerick set out on their championship campaign.

Now it’s expectation...

And, true to the Irish psyche not all feel comfortable with expectation and pressure.

To be fair, that’s the Limerick supporter in me taking – the players, management, and all within the Limerick camp appear to feel very much at ease with their current status.

This week saw the first championship predictions; JJ Delaney, Ollie Canning, Daithi Regan, Shane McGrath and Jamesie O’Connor - all predicted Limerick to retain the MacCarthy Cup.

All that said, and the Irish psyche aside, it’s great to have Limerick right in the middle of all championship debate.

The Munster GAA Council produce all Match Programmes for Munster SHC games and asked media for a prediction on the final standings.

A quick online search tells me there are 120 permutations as to the final standings and that is pretty accurate for it’s a Munster Championship where I think there will be no more than a score between teams.

For what it’s worth my prediction was; 1: Limerick, 2: Clare, 3: Cork, 4: Tipperary, 5: Waterford.
