Tiger Woods, the Comeback Kid
Tiger Woods. What a comeback that was. What a comeback indeed. But was it the best?
Sunday evening Tiger Woods won the US Masters having recovered from back surgery, surrounded by the noise of the World's media, who had written him off.
The ‘comeback’ was watched by millions all over the World, who quickly took to social media to proclaim this was the best sporting comeback of all time. (Myself included)
However, is it though? Is it any better than tennis star Monica Seles coming back from being stabbed.
What about Niki Lauda and his miraculous return to Formula One.
Ben Hogan, the champion golfer came back to win tournaments having been hit by a bus.
Yes Tiger Woods' comeback was sensational and yes it is an amazing feat, but the instant nature of social media immediately forgot about the hundreds of years of sport that had gone before it.
We now live our lives in the 'moment' more than ever. Everything is now and next, nothing is really about what has come before.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but sometimes the true weight of an event is best looked at in hindsight. That may be 20/20, but no one can wait that long.
