Grand National Tips: Rathvinden and Vieux Lion Rouge with ‘National’ claims

Our tip for the National - Rathvinden

THE world’s most famous horse race, the four and a quarter mile stg£1 million Randox Health Grand National takes place over Aintree Racecourse at 5.15pm this Saturday.

The 2018 hero Tiger Roll. trained by leading Irish handler, Gordon Elliott IRE, has been heading the ante-post market for the 2019 Grand National for some time.

Generally on offer at 20/1 in mid-February, recent Cheltenham Festival cross-country winner Tiger Roll is as short as 7/2 favourite with the bookies this week.

At those odds, Tiger Roll is not a betting proposition for those who are once-a-year punters.

At odds of 10/1,another Irish contender, Rathvinden is the shortest price of Willie Mullins’ Grand National contenders.

Rathvinden has some high-class form to his name, winning the National Hunt Chase at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival. The 11-year-old recently won the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse.

Rathvinden has solid each way claims, while at 33/1, the David Pipe-trained Vieux Lion Rouge also looks an attractive each-way option.

Vieux Lion Rouge has run over the Aintree fences six times and made it round on every occasion.
