Markets Field to host Rugby's Transfield Cup final

Rugby posts are once more installed at the Markets Field

ON Sunday, January 27, the Markets Field will host the Transfield Cup Final, 2.30pm, between last year’s winners Newcastle West RFC and neighbours Abbeyfeale RFC.

This famous trophy was presented by T. C Transfield, a proprietor of a circus in O’Connell Avenue, Limerick in 1895. It is the second oldest trophy in Munster.

Match venue, the Markets Field, an iconic setting for the first Junior 1 competition North Munster final to be staged at the Garryowen venue for over 75 years.

Three-time winners Newcastle West have defeated Young Munster, St Marys and Richmond to date, while Abbeyfeale, seeking their first final win, have seen off Shannon and St Senan’s.
