Limerick FC captain Shane Duggan moves to Premier League side

Shane Duggan in action for Limerick FC

Waterford FC today confirmed that Limerick FC captain Shane Duggan has signed with their club.

Duggan, 29, captained the Limerick FC side that won promotion to the Premier Division having previously played for Cork City, UCD and cross channel with Plymouth Argyle.

The loss of the squad captain will come as a massive blow to Limerick FC fans, who have been left in the dark about the future of the club since the 'SuperBlues' were relegated to Division One at the start of this month.

With growing uncertainty surrounding the club's future, alongside the loss of Duggan to Waterford and Cian Coleman to St Pat's, Limerick soccer fans and indeed Limerick people in general await any news from the Limerick FC board at this uncertain time for all.

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after signing, Duggan said: “I’m delighted to get the deal done. I’ve been talking to Alan (Reynolds) for a while now and it’s great to get sorted.

“I saw the quality there last season, I played with Bastien when he was at Limerick, and the team really took the league by storm with the football and the formation.

“Of course there’ll always be changes in the team from year to year so I need to hit the ground running in the pre-season and I can’t wait to get started.”

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after confirming the signing, manager Alan Reynolds said: “It’s great to have Shane signed up for the new season. I’ve been trying to nail him down for some time now and it’s brilliant to get it done.

Duggan joins Bastien Hery, JJ Lunney, Zack Elbouzedi and Ismahil Akinade in the confirmed Waterford FC 2019 squad to date – with more names to be confirmed in the coming days.
